The Year of the Rabbit
Happy Year of the Black Rabbit! In the words of my father (Eddie Lowe 1941-2022)...
Sun leen fai lo, sun tey geng hong, gong he fa choi.
This means, happy new year, may you have good health and may you be prosperous!...(complete with cheeky smile and wagging finger).
Chinese new year follows the lunar cycle and the first month begins with 2 weeks of celebration from new moon in January through to full moon in February. This year it's Jan 22-Feb 4.
This 2023 lunar new year welcomes the black (yin, water) rabbit who likes to take things cautiously possibly swinging back and forth, making sure all is correct before jumping into things. Rabbit in general is a wood animal so this can be a pretty harmonious year for some as water feeds wood.
Wood brings change and growth (whether we like it or not) so it may be a good year for new beginnings, new projects, new ways of being. It's important to stay flexible to avoid falling into stagnation, irritation or anger type behaviours if things don't go as you expect. A good year to build community and networks. Rest and retreat may be important to help counter any fear and anxiety however and if doubt starts to creep in, stand your ground, doubt is an unhelpful trickster.
Extremes in weather are on the cards which we are already seeing here in Aotearoa. It may be a dry year environmentally and internally overall however so focusing on preserving and sustaining the waters on all levels may be of benefit.
What was happening 12 years ago for you? This might give an indication of what is in store for you as similar themes may emerge with this new cycle. 2023 is a year of creating new stories, incorporating the lessons we have learned and planning (while remaining open to changes of those plans), to carefully to create our story. Look for the magic in life, following the tells your intuition picks up on to stay on track.
This is a very general read on the year and if you really want to know whats in store for you, find out what your Ba zi are - 4 pillars. You will have animals for your year, month, day and hour. The year and month are more external influences while month and hour tend to be more internal and personal. How the rabbit interacts with your animals will be key to gaining better understanding of what types of qi/energetics you need to specifically focus on or look out for...even this is just the top layer...

With astrology being a part of our macrocosm it is viewed as an influencial part of our environment and therefore us, in whole systems. This is often considered when diagnosing patients. If you are seeking more information about Chinese medicine and food or what is involved in whole system health, a consultation may be useful. Treatments can involve guidance on an emotional, spiritual and/or physical level using bodywork and/or qi-work techniques along with relevant lifestyle suggestions. Food is medicine in whole system health. As such, treatments incorporate herbs and ingredients to the diet or change in habits around food for particular health conditions based on diagnosis. Sessions are highly individualised and a working partnership is always much more beneficial than if you are simply looking for someone to fix you.
